Division I Third Place Strings Winner Claire Wells
Currently 9 years old, Claire began piano at age 2 years 10 months, and violin when she turned 3. Until her move from Oregon to Texas last year, her parents were her principal violin teachers, and her long time piano teacher was Christine Mirabella. Now, she studies violin with Jan Mark Sloman, while her parents continue to work with her as well. She studies piano with Elena Tsvetkova. She has had master classes with Jan Sloman, Ani Kavafian, Ida Kavafian, Wu Han and Sergio Luca. She was the top prize winner on violin and piano at the Oregon Teachers Association Bach Festival, State level, in 2010 and the first prize winner on violin and piano at the Dallas Teachers Association Symphonic Festival, 2011. Claire has been awarded the loan of a small Ruggeri violin, made in Cremona, Italy in 1670. She uses a Simon bow.
Claire is home schooled, is an avid reader, and loves to play chamber music and Celtic fiddle when she has the chance.
